TIP Hosts Visit to Show E-Heza In Action During CPHIA 2022
During the Africa Health Tech Summit held in Kigali in December 2022, the Africa CDC digitization team requested TIP Global Health host a site visit to bring conference attendees to view a local digital health innovation in action. Attendees were to learn about E-Heza’s approach, TIP’s journey to implementation, and the lessons learnt from our work. The site visit was part of the official visits organized alongside the Conference on Public Health in Africa (CPHIA) and the Africa Health Tech Summit held on 15 December, 2022. Participants in the visit included visitors from Finland, Kenya, Nigeria, Switzerland, South Africa, Uganda, United States, and Rwanda.
The visit was held at Ntarama Health Center and Rugarana Village located in Bugesera District, Nyamata District Hospital’s catchment area. Attendees met the staff of Nyamata District Hospital, including Dr. William Rutagengwa, Director General, who oversees the Ntarama Health Center. Participants also met staff from Mareba and Ntarama Health Centers including nurses and midwives as well as 20 mothers and their children present for their health assessments.
First, Dr. Rutagengwa provided a brief overview of Rwanda’s health system, explaining the health indicators used in the Nyamata catchment area and explained how the use of E-Heza Data Solution supports their work in these areas. Mr. Sylvere from the Rwandan Ministry of Health then shared more about how E-Heza has supported the primary care system in region and how the tool assists with the overall digitalization of the health system in Rwanda. CHWs then demonstrated how E-Heza works to support their day-to-day duties and how it has helped with the move from paper-based records to a digital record. They demonstrated how user-friendly E-Heza is and how it is easily accessible for people of all education levels. Attendees then asked questions related to Rwanda’s health system and how E-Heza supports it.
Site visit attendees shared that they were most surprised by the holistic service delivery of E-Heza from the community, facility, district, and national levels and were impressed by the artificial intelligence that enables decision making by the frontline health care workers who use it. They also were pleased with E-Heza’s dashboard availability at all levels – village, health post, facility, district, and nationally.
TIP Global Health is glad to have the opportunity to showcase E-Heza to the visitors and is happy to share more on the benefits of digitalization – real time data for decision making, improving the quality of care, strengthening the relationship between the community, facility, and district hospitals that therefore improves health outcomes.
