RCT – E-Heza Impact on Primary Care
Advancing Maternal and Child Health: Evaluating Solutions for Childhood Stunting in Rwanda
Childhood stunting is a significant health challenge in Rwanda, affecting 33% of children under the age of five. This condition, which results from chronic malnutrition, affects children’s growth and development and has long-term impacts on their health, learning abilities, and productivity. TIP Global Health, in collaboration with the Government of Rwanda and key international stakeholders, is committed to addressing this urgent issue. Together, we are leveraging the E-Heza platform to enhance maternal and child health services in districts where stunting rates are especially high, with the ultimate goal of reducing stunting rates and improving long-term health outcomes for children and their families.
To measure the effectiveness of our efforts, TIP Global Health has partnered with Mathematica to design and implement a rigorous randomized controlled trial (RCT) framework. This offers an opportunity to design a rigorous study to quantify the impact of an optimized intervention package on health and health-system outcomes. Specifically, the evaluation study will test the hypothesis that the E-Heza facilitated intervention package improves maternal and child health outcomes in pregnancy, at birth, and during the first two years of the child’s life. We aim to demonstrate the effectiveness of the E-Heza platform in delivering critical health services and information that supports maternal and child health. The study will track key health outcomes during pregnancy, at birth, and throughout the early stages of a child’s life, providing insights into how digital tools can drive improvements in health at the community level.
Beyond measuring individual health outcomes, this RCT will also assess the intervention’s impact on overall health system performance, setting a new standard for maternal and child health interventions with sustainable, far-reaching impact. TIP Global Health’s data-driven approach, combined with strategic partnerships, enables us to pioneer scalable solutions to combat childhood stunting effectively. The data gathered will refine our approach, inform healthcare policy, and contribute to a more resilient healthcare system in Rwanda. This RCT marks a critical milestone, systematically evaluating E-Heza’s impact while laying the groundwork for scaling this solution to other regions and countries where stunting is widespread.
