Susan Stenovec
Susan Stenovec met Dr. Wendy Leonard at a Rotary conference in Santa Barbara, California. and they bonded over their shared Rwandan experiences. Susan’s family has owned Sorwathe Tea Importers, a tea factory in Rwanda since the 1970’s and she manages their social benefit projects as well as serving on their Board of Directors. Sorwathe Tea Factory received the 14th annual Secretary of State’s Award for Corporate Excellence for their company’s efforts to eradicate child labor in Rwanda’s tea sector, When Aheza Fortified Porridge came along, it was a perfect fit for her nutrition project in the area pre-schools. TIP Global Health and Sorwathe have collaborated on a health impact study and continue to partner to solve childhood malnutrition in Rwanda.
Susan has had a long and varied professional and volunteer career, including working in the family tea business, being a pilates/gyrotonic rehabilitation instructor, serving on many local and a couple national boards, and raising four children. She is an active lay leader in her church, The Unitarian Universalists of San Luis Obispo. Susan received her B.S.N. from Cornell University in 1979 and her B.A. from Johns Hopkins University in 1975. Her super-power is networking and connecting people.
