TIP’s Strategic Growth Made Possible by CRI Foundation Support
Since 2017, CRI Foundation has provided transformational support for TIP Global Health’s strategic growth and overall health systems change. Thanks to CRI’s generous support, TIP has worked with the Rwanda Ministry of Health and local NGO partners to expand the impact and reach of our most well-established innovations – E-Heza Data Solutions and Aheza Fortified Food – while deepening our role as leaders in creating effective and resilient primary health care delivery systems.
E-Heza is widely recognized in Rwanda as an important tool for maintaining critical primary care services amid the Covid-19 pandemic because of its ability to screen patients for risk of Covid-19 prior to continuing primary healthcare while also engaging patients in care. TIP Global Health’s expansion strategy is to expand E-Heza through health center networks that include the villages and health posts associated with each health center.
TIP works with the Rwanda Ministry of Health to support their national EHealth strategy and serves as a member on the Digital Health Technical Working Group. The Ministry of Health is a key partner in TIP’s expansion to new districts.
With CRI Foundation’s support, TIP Global Health expanded E-Heza into Gasabo District. TIP trained additional 197 frontline health workers in Gasabo with E-Heza to facilitate our model for effective, high-quality primary health care.
E-Heza is currently implemented in 45 health facilities, 91 villages, and 9 school feeding programs. Proficiency scores for nurses and midwives in health centers are consistently above 95%. Over 93,000) individuals are registered on E-Heza, and over 265,000 unique visits have been recorded. This includes 10,907 pregnant women and 19,364 antenatal care visits.
In the last three years, CRI Foundation’s support has also allowed TIP Global Health to increase staff, maintain high staff retention, provide professional development opportunities to continue to grow the skills of the staff, and create a more financially sustainable organization. TIP not only grew our operational budget more than 130% since 2018, but also completed a thorough strategic plan. We identified key hires for organizational growth over the three years. The TIP organizational chart is properly staffed with a minimum 90% staff retention rate and an impressive 95% staff satisfaction rate.
TIP Global Health conducted a comprehensive analysis of the key drivers of our organizational growth. This process included an internal and external assessment of our organization’s maturity and areas in need of improvement. We have identified the critical human resources required to address current gaps. We have established a set of organizational charts that demonstrate our plans for year-to-year human resources growth. The recruitment for two new positions is underway, and we have a clear timeline and strategy for hiring additional key positions.
TIP Global Health’s Rwandan headquarters have been relocated to a house in Ruli that has been renovated to accommodate our growing team. TIP has also been selected to participate in the HealthTech Hub in Kigali, where staff have access to a state-of-the art coworking space, the Norrsken House, that encourages collaboration with fellow Rwandan organizations in the sector.
Over this three year grant cycle, TIP has grown from serving one district hospital catchment area to serving six catchment areas. Our financial standing is secure, the staff has grown while maintaining staff satisfaction, and we have secured office space in Kigali to accommodate our growing needs. Our work is influencing national and international policy makers. Most importantly, our community-driven and technology-enabled model for effective primary healthcare delivery is achieving lasting improvements in health outcomes. TIP Global Health looks forward to working alongside CRI Foundation for the next three years as we utilize rigorous research methods to demonstrate the causal relationship between our model and improved health outcomes with the goal of even greater health impact.
